Welcome to an immersive experience where the everyday becomes eternal, and fleeting moments transform into lasting memories. Artist Ming Chen invites you to explore her latest series, Re-Entry, a collection that captures the transient beauty of life, imbued with both personal and universal significance. Whether you join us virtually or in person, this exhibition offers a unique journey through layered moments that blur the lines between reality and imagination.
A Journey Beyond Time
Ming Chen’s art is rooted in a philosophy that resonates deeply with our shared experiences: each moment, no matter how fleeting, carries a timeless essence once it’s recognized and remembered. Inspired by the simplicity of daily interactions, family connections, and the evolving landscapes from her travels, Ming’s work brings focus to the often-overlooked fragments of everyday life. These captured instances—moments of fragility, beauty, and quiet reflection—allow viewers to pause, engage, and reflect on their own connections to the world around them.
The "Re-Entry" Series: Blending Tradition and Innovation
Through her Re-Entry series, Ming explores the continuous cycles of building, erasing, and reconstructing. She combines traditional Chinese ink and watercolor techniques on Xuan paper with modern materials like canvas and wood panel, creating a layered dialogue between past and present. Ming’s unique method of peeling and layering Xuan paper embodies the act of detachment—a metaphor for stepping away from life’s noise to reconnect with one’s deeper self. Each layer added or removed symbolizes the natural rhythms of presence and absence, encouraging viewers to find meaning within the simplicity and complexity of each piece.
Ming’s work with discarded materials like color-stained paper towel fragments elevates the mundane into something meaningful and symbolic. Arranged in spontaneous compositions using handmade flour paste, these fragments become a testament to renewal and continuity, transforming remnants into new forms. The process is guided by intuition, not premeditated design, embodying Ming’s meditative approach to art. In her hands, simplicity reveals vast possibilities, showing that within each detail lies an expansive narrative waiting to unfold.
Ming revisits cherished memories and moments in works such as Micro Time, The Pink Flamingo Died This Summer, and Evidence of Love. These pieces encourage us to look beyond the immediate, allowing us to experience the depth of each fleeting instance. By inviting us to “re-enter” these captured memories, Ming reveals how moments, once noticed, transcend their transient nature and resonate as timeless experiences.
